“Memento Mori” This is a phrase in Latin that means “Remember you will die”. A phrase like this is probably relevant when you find yourself nearing your 30s and you want to check things off your bucket list while you’re still young and single without the prospect of settling down any time soon to live life to the fullest while you still can.
That is the place where I met another Angel who taught me to dare to be unique. He comes from a poor country in Central America where the political and economical climate is very poor as the people have lost many of their rights. In search of a better life, he moved to a neighboring country in Costa Rica for a little while where he found political asylum but decided to make a new life for himself in Europe after spending a few years in that neighboring Latin American country.
All else changed when he decided to follow a route less traveled by his peers. When he moved to Scandinavia he surrounded himself by a totally different culture and customs than his own.
I’ve read countless of stories of a better quality of life in Scandanavia as the people there tend to live happier. They love to live by a slower rhythm of life by taking time outside in nature every day. Making exercise a priority by riding their bikes to work instead of going in cars and making meaningful relationships a priority.
I asked my friend and he said it’s true. The people really are friendly and enjoy a happier quality of life than what many other people around the world experience.
He also tells me about all the exciting opportunities he has to travel while he’s in Europe. He says Spain is just a 4-hour flight from where he is in Finland. He has plans of visiting Paris soon and he also has other goals of visiting other European countries while he has the opportunity.
It’s probably a great idea to enjoy travel while you’re still young. You get to see new sights, try new flavors, and write stories that you would be proud of telling your grandkids when you’re old.
It’s important to never turn down an opportunity to travel and write new stories because you will never know what you will miss out on.
So if you ever find yourself in a situation where you could visit a place that not many would ever think to consider don’t turn it down so quickly. Allow yourself to live a richer life by traveling and getting to know other cultures and customs. You won’t regret it on your deathbed when you meet a ripe old age since we should all memento mori.
